The deal is subject to regulatory approval and the UK's Office of Fair Trading has officially invited comment on whether it "may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom." (source: publishers lunch)
The Book Depository has been quick to reassure customers that nothing will change at the customer service level. We'll see. If I lose my free postage I'll mess someone up real bad. Maybe that smug little shit in the top hat.
