Happy Birthday to Me

38 today, 38 today... Why was she born so beautiful...

Have been promised takeaway tonight, no cooking for me, yay!

Have recieved an edited blurb for Sunset Knight, so things moving along. Eagerly awaiting the cover now... I want a cover!

Have managed three paragraphs on new story. Am thoroughly exhausted and looking for distractions--hence my presence on the blog.

Have already taken sick day on first week of work, on behalf of Cherub who needs to attend doctor's office, due to horrible cough and general malaise. Assess myself as model employee.

Have come down with flu that has been plaguing the rest of the family. Can't believe it took this long.

Happy birthday to me!

Yikes, has it been a year?

Abraham Lincoln: My father taught me to work; he did not teach me to love it.

D-Day has almost arrived--tomorrow is my first day back at work after maternity leave. A whole year has passed in the blink of an eye. Holy crap, the cherub will be 1 in a couple of weeks, I'll be 38 on wednesday (holy double crap batman!), and the kids have chosen the absolute worst time to get sick. Coughs and runny noses all round (hubby too). I had really hoped to avoid taking a sick day on my first week back at the day job, but I guess that depends on hubby's ability to take some time off or a miracle cure. Fingers crossed for either, both, or my boss being in a really great mood tomorrow.

On the writing front I achieved my modest goals this week. I completed my first round of edits for Sunset Knight and sent them back to my ed, and I wrote 3000 words on the new story I'm working on. Too bad I know with my writer's gut instinct that they're all bound for the scrap heap. Ah well, the cost of doing business I say.

Trips to the gym this week: a pitiful 1. I'm guessing the scales won't be my friend tomorrow either.

A Man for Monday

I'm really just too rushed and crabby from lack of sleep to make much of a blogging effort this morning. So I'll let Paul Walker do my work for me :).

Anyone for a swim?

Sami

PS. Braved the scales this morning--not as horrific as first imagined. Almost back to weight I was before visit from the birthday cake fairy (ie. Mum).

Back to 'Normal' Around Here

Whatever normal is. At my house it looks an awful lot like crazy Monday.

  • Mum's gone back to her neck of the woods.

  • I've restarted night toilet training for Princess, now that she's 4 I've decided she really should be able to get the hang of it. So far one dry night, one not so dry. And it's raining like I live in England or something, making drying sheets a bit of a chore.

  • Hubby's done something critical to his shoulder--an old football injury acting up again. Can barely move it, the poor possum. What good's a man who can't do chores, I ask you?

  • The girls are in daycare today, Cherub is getting aclimated for my impending return to work.

  • I have to go to the gym or those new size 12 jeans are gonna split in half. A week with my mother that included a lolly covered party cake and a trip to Sizzler did serious damage to the diet.

  • As per above, have not weighed myself today. Simply refuse be be further depressed.

  • Have received first round of edits for Sunset Knight. Can't wait to get stuck in.

  • Have a rapidly fermenting idea for next story which might actually stick. I hope.

Now it's off to the gym for penance.

Fantastic Four

Princess Three officially turned Princess Four today. She's just had a few of her friends over for cake. A beautiful masterpiece it was too--a shame to cut it really. Fortunately for me, my mother's visiting and made her extra fattening butter cream icing and was also on hand to cut the necessary shapes to make the butterfly. I have zero technical accuracy when it comes to cutting shapes out of cake matter.

Next stop--booster shots. It doesn't seem fair they have to take injections along with the presents, does it?

Collage Schmolage

Spent the better part of last week trying the collaging thing, in a desperate attempt to force one of the many vague story ideas I have to crystalize in my mind. Princess thought it was fun, my take on it? Big. Fat. Timewaster. I was going to take a photo of what I ended up with and post it, but all I've got is a bunch of ripped out pictures that have now been stuffed into an envelope. I lost interest at the gluing stage. I didn't like collaging at school, so what was I thinking? Only that I didn't want to dismiss something recommended by Jenny Crusie without at least giving it a bash. I may try it again in future, but for now it seems like yet another way I can allow myself to procrastinate, so screw it.

Now I'm left with one previously vague idea that is coming into sharper focus on its own, but it brings up several questions. Like; Is the rich girl/bodyguard trope ridiculously cliche, or a timeless classic? Is it any fresher if the bodyguard is part Korean? And why the hell does he look Korean to me? I have no experience with Korean/Australian people, but I swear there's a definite Koreanishness to him. Yeah, that's a word.

Off to do some research to see if I can make that work. The pic looks promising, and does Hugh look slightly Asian there or is it just me?

weight lost the past 2 weeks: 1.5kg. Woohoo! 10% of overall body weight now gone and fitting back into size 12 jeans. Happy, happy day. Have been celebrating by drinking wine and eating avocado and cheese on toast. Probably not wise :).

Oh No, Not Today

Is this street art, or the inevitable result if I step on the scales today? It's a toss up. As such, no update on the weight this week. Yes that's right, call me an ostrich.
On the writing front... ugh. Don't ask about that either. On the plus side, at least I worked out today, had a badly needed haircut, and both the girls are currently having 'quiet time'. An hour's self-satisfied bliss... If only I could add chocolate to it.
