The Schedule Has Enemies

Yes I have been working on the schedule thing but it has opponents.

1. School. Princess 4.5 had her first week of school this week--or half week since Wednesday was her first day. The smallest uniform they had fit her like a mumu, so I had to pull out the needle and thread and make out like I have a latent talent for domesticity. No one has noticed her dress has a crooked hem yet. Perhaps they think one of her legs is shorter than the other and they're just too nice to point it out.

2. Tennis. The Australian Open comes but once a year and I really enjoy watching other people achieving their dreams. It makes me want to achieve mine--just as soon as the Tennis is over.

3. Tennis part II. My brother was here a few days ago and pointed out to me how much bigger Roger Federer's right arm is than his left. It's like he doesn't even bother using the left arm for anything, and the right is all ripped like Popeye's after a can of spinach. Seriously, next time you see him look at how atrophied that left arm looks next to his superhuman magic tennis limb. This has been very distracting for me. I can hardly concentrate on writing.

3. Summer. I live in Queensland and it's friggin' hot. Oh I might as well say it, it's fuckin' hot. Come get me google blog censors. If you lived in Queensland where the summer heat saps you of all inspiration, motivation, energy and some days the very will to live, you'd swear too.

4. Teeth. Cherub  1.5 is getting some more, her eye teeth to be precise, and I'm sick to my eye teeth with the whole wretched, screaming, snivelling, slobbering and sobbing process of it. Poor little thing. Yes, I do feel sorry for her, occasionally, when I can see my way clear to stop feeling sorry for myself. I figure with the dramatic build up we've had, she's going to sprout a hell of a set of fangs, something of Twighlight proportions. Perhaps I could write a book, I gave birth to a baby vampire and no-one offered me a trilogy movie deal. And then broker a movie deal for that.

5. Avoidance. That old bug bear. There are so many things I can do to avoid the actual hard work of being a creative genius in the making. Washing, ironing, shopping and dare I say blogging? That new I Pad thingie has occupied most of my thoughts today--my thought on that item specifically being "IwanitIwanitIwanit." Something like that.

Despite all this I have somehow managed to eke out 12 017 words for January. Not nearly as much as I would like but it's a start. And I did write that outline the first week, an outline that I've actually stuck to so far, at three chapters in. It might be only one step forward but it's something. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That's one of my all time favorites. Very Zen.

  1. Hi Sami,
The humidity level has increased down this way, so I can imagine how it is up there. Did you cry when little miss went to school. I did when it was my daughters first day. I felt like a real heel. I had to convince myself it was the right thing to do. lol...

Yes, the journey does begin with that single step. You've made quite a few. :)

    Suz :)
